The real cost of Eventbrite for certification trainers

A $1,000 CSM seat. A 6.99% + $1.79 fee. Do the math. Then do it for twenty seats.

CohortStudio Team

Eventbrite is a great ticketing platform. It is not a training platform. Most certification trainers picked it because it was the fastest thing to stand up in a weekend, and then never revisited the decision.

Let's revisit it.

The fee, in one line

On the Eventbrite Pro plan in the US: 6.99% + $1.79 per paid ticket.

That is not nothing. On a $1,000 CSM seat that's $68.69 per learner, every cohort, forever.

The damage at realistic cohort sizes

A mid-size CSM practice might run two public cohorts per quarter at 20 learners each. That's 160 seats a year.

  • 160 × $68.69 = $10,990.40 handed to Eventbrite every twelve months.

That's enough to cover a co-trainer day rate for more than a month. Or four years of CohortStudio Solo. Or roughly two years of CohortStudio Studio.

"But Eventbrite brings me traffic"

It's worth less than you'd think. Independent trainer revenue comes overwhelmingly from:

  1. Direct outreach and LinkedIn
  2. Past-learner referrals
  3. Your website ranking for "[credential] training [city]"
  4. A small long tail of marketplace discovery

That last item is the only one Eventbrite actually helps with, and it's usually under 10% of bookings. The other 90% is traffic you're paying a 7% tax on because you set it up there once.

The non-economic cost

Price aside, Eventbrite fundamentally doesn't know what a cohort is.

  • No learner portal
  • No pre-work / post-work
  • No attendance model
  • No certifying-body submissions
  • No credentials
  • No margin analytics

You've been stitching those yourself, with spreadsheets and a CRM and a folder in Google Drive. That work is a second job.

The clean version

A flat-priced platform that treats cohorts and certifications as first-class is what the job actually needs. That's what we're building in CohortStudio. If you're running paid certification cohorts today, the economics alone make the migration decision obvious.

If that resonates, try CohortStudio. We'll migrate your Eventbrite catalog for free when you switch. Email hello@cohortstudio.io to kick it off.
